Corydoras Caudimaculatus

The Corydoras Caudimaculatus sort of got me back into keeping cory's. At Php 720 (US$ 13) they were not cheap. But they were extremely cute and I was not able to resist buying a few of them. Their availability locally would be what I'd call rare. Going around the LFS has been a hobby of mine for at least a decade now and that was the first time I ever saw the Caudi in a local store.

hello, i've been into cories lately. dati hindi ko sila pinapansin but eversince i researched and watched their behavior(thanks to youtube) i've been hooked!
so recently i got me 9 C. steabais from metro petshop at cartimar pasay. may C. caudimaculatus din sila dun @360Php each. I was wondering kung bakit ganun kamahal yun. pero cute nga yung less pronounced snout nila hehe.

just a heads up, magti-3 years na pala tong post mo, i doubt kung mababasa mo to. anyway i'm having fun reading your blog ^^

Hi!

Actually, the Php360 pricetag on the caudi is way cheap already. When I got mine three years ago, they were Php750 each! But because they were, as you said cute, I got nine of them. Aside from the beauty of these corys, they were rare, newly available in the LFS then and still wild-caught, I guess that explains the steep price. But the ones at Metro now are tank bred by the owner, Paul. This I admire so much because I personally have not been successful at breeding my corys.

Will be posting some updates on my corys soon. Thanks for dropping by!

i thought you'd never reply ^^

The tailspots are now my current favorite corys! I was choosing between C. caudimaculatus and C. julli actually, but them tail-spots won the better of me.

I bought 3 of them yesterday at metro(I know I should buy atleast a six but I got short on cash, 390php a piece is still a steep price considering their schooling nature, and specially hard for a full-time student like me, no merienda for a week! LOL) I'll just get the rest of them on monday.

I'm actually thinking of housing them with C. similis because a researcher said similar-looking corys do school together in the wild(or is it just an excuse for me to have a decent number for a lower price of 90php each wahahaha) I would like to have atleast 20 of them in my 75-G south american community tank.

just an update!

I got the last four of the caudimaculatus last thursday, a decent school of 7 finally, but the bad news is, there are no more similis' left.

I asked if there's a chance for C. adolfoi pero sabi nila hindi pa nagkakaganun dito sa pilipinas.

"Return next week" they said, By then they might have gossei, duplicareus, and metae(800-900php each daw? T__T awwww)

Hi Niko!

Congrats with the new acquisitions! Hmm, looks like you've been bitten by the cory-bug already. Here's to hoping it does not clean out your lunch money!

I am not surprised about the price of the new corys about to arrive. When it's rare, you're left with not much choice really. Just pray somebody can breed them locally soon. Malay mo, you are the one who may be able to breed them. And I will just buy from you!

While I have not kept Adolfoi yet, about 2 people, my cousin who used to keep corydoras, too, and a friend and fellow hobbyist have told me that they were available a few years ago for a limited time only. Hope they come back, because they are nice looking corys.

Meron pa ba nung Julii sa Metro? Last time I went there there were only 3. I thought twice about getting them now I'm regretting it. They're one of my favorite breeds. Beautiful markings. They're about Php360 each right? I can still remember when I used to get them for Php60.

BTW, by Julii, I meant, Trilineatus. I'm pretty sure the one in Metro are Trils although they are labeled, "Julii".

They were in two seperate tanks the last time i checked, jullis are 380/each while trileneatus for 150/each. i think there were 4 more jullis left if my memory serves me right.

pag adult mo lang yata madidifferentiate kagad yung dalawang species eh.

buti na lang nandyan si nettagaiyo ^__^

I just noticed one tank labeled Julii. They looked like Trils to me. Now that you've mentioned there were two tanks, I'm thinking twice. I'll check again. Thanks!

My favorite cory resource is planetcatfish.com. Do you visit that site, too?
